Local veterans express their concerns about the VA clinic to Senator Rounds, Rep. Johnson

At town hall, veterans raised concerns about a Veterans Administration recommendation that was given a month ago that could close some facilities in South Dakota.

RAPID CITY, SD — Sen. Mike Rounds and Rep. Dusty Johnson spoke to local veterans Friday at a town hall for American Veterans with Disabilities at the Rushmore Hotel.

At town hall, veterans raised concerns about a Veterans Administration recommendation that was given a month ago that could close some facilities in South Dakota.

On this list, Fort Meade and Hot Springs VA Clinic locations were included.

Moving forward, Senator Rounds says the next course of action is to garner support for not allowing the select committee to form, and then plans will begin to be put in place moving forward. with the cuts.

Senator Rounds says the way the current plan is written directly attacks small VA clinics.

“This particular system or this particular report, called error reporting, is being developed where the VA has recommended the closure of a number of facilities across the country. Unfortunately, they kind of chose rural facilities, and that’s going to hurt our veterans in South Dakota,” Senator Rounds said.

Senator Rounds encourages members of the public who are having trouble with their VA clinic to get in touch with his nearest office.
