MANISTEE — In honor of World Rabies Day, which is September 28 this year, the Parkdale Veterinary Wellness Center is hosting a free rabies vaccination clinic for cats and dogs.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 25 at the Veterinary Clinic, located at 420 Parkdale Avenue in Manistee. Parking is also available next door at the Manistee Automotive Service Center, according to a flyer for the event.

The clinic includes a full physical exam and a rabies shot.

“Each year, 59,000 people die from rabies, a preventable disease,” reads a flyer for the event. “Let’s work together to eradicate rabies.”

Vaccines will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis. The queue can be long.

Dogs must be on a leash (non-retractable leashes are recommended) or in a carrier. Cats must be in a carrier – not a harness collar or leash – no exceptions will be made.

Pet owners attending the clinic must bring their pet’s vaccination history in order to qualify for a three-year vaccine. All others will receive a one-year vaccine. Applications will not be accepted after the clinic.

Pre-registration can be done in person at the Parkdale Veterinary Wellness Center by bringing your pet’s records. The pre-registration deadline is 5 p.m. on September 21. Pre-registered people will have preference online.

Phones will not be answered on the day of the event. For more information call 231-723-8998
